Mind-Body Groups

MotherWit Integrative Medicine is partnering with the NPO Communitas Health to bring you a mind-body and resilience program for families living with chronic health conditions.

In this program, we will teach various mind-body skills for stress management, relaxation, self-care, and wellness in the face of illness and adversity.

Dr. Blockman’s research has shown that these groups can lead to significant improvements in mental and physical wellbeing, stress, and resilience in teens with chronic illness.

The group will also be a place for group sharing, support, and creating community.

  • 8-session series (90 minutes each, 8 weeks in a row, by video) teaching mind-body stress reduction skills + group support for youth living with chronic illness and their interested parents. For most age groups, parents will meet in a separate group from their kids.

  • Techniques taught include:

    • Mindfulness

    • Meditation

    • Biofeedback

    • Self-hypnosis

    • Self-compassion practices

    • Guided imagery

    • Breathing and relaxation techniques

    • Using journaling and drawing to express emotions

  • Supportive tips sheets sent by email after each session

  • We will enroll 5-10 participants per group.

  • 8-12 year olds with a chronic health condition*

  • 13-18 year olds with a chronic health condition

  • 19-26 year olds with a chronic health condition

  • Parents of children, teens, and young adults living with chronic illness

*Parents will be required groups with their children.
